Overtime, the pipes begin to corrode and the Zinc on the pipes erodes. Unfortunately, it’s been found that this causes the dangerous toxin, Lead, which can have detrimental impacts on your health.
In case you don’t know, exposure to Lead, can lead to Lead Poisoning which can impact your brain and central nervous system. Tips for identifying Galvanised pipework:
1) Rust around the pipes (particularly pipe joints)
2) Brown/rust-coloured water discharging from the pipe
3) Poor water pressure
4) Scratch the pipes to identify the underlying colour of the pipes – silver/grey pipes means galvanised steel!
